Arrival of EU Citizens and their Family Members in the Czech Republic
EU citizens
EU citizens’ family members
You can cross the borders of the Czech Republic, which are the internal borders of the Schengen Area, basically at any point. There is no border control.
Border control is carried out only on the Schengen external borders, that is at Czech international airports if you are flying to or from countries outside the Schengen Area.
If, as an EU citizen, you do not have a travel document or an ID card and you are not able to get it, during the border control, the police will allow you to prove your identity with another document.

Border control is carried out only on the Schengen external borders, that is at Czech international airports if you are flying to or from countries outside the Schengen Area. It is a minimum control during which your identity will be compared to the presented travel document. The validity of your travel document, including family relations, will be also checked.
If, as an EU citizen’s family member, do not have a travel document or an ID card and you are not able to get it, during the border control, the police will allow you to prove your identity with another document. The document must also prove that you are an EU citizen’s family member.
Persons under 15 years of age included in the travel document of another person with whom they are travelling do not need to present a travel document.
If you are a national of a country whose citizens are required to have a visa, despite being an EU citizen’s family member, you need to have a visa. You do not need to have a visa only if you hold a valid temporary or permanent residence permit issued by another EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland and you want to stay in the Czech Republic for less than 3 months.
If you are travelling together with an EU citizen or to see such a citizen who already resides in the country, the police can introduce a visa in your travel document at the border.
